Sensory Enrichment Therapy

Can sensory enrichment reverse the effects of sensory deprivation?

@everyone We protect babies from scratches, noise, smells, etc.

But the developing brain doesn't just need protection. It also develops through experience.

Research on environmental enrichment, and sensory deprivation raises an interesting question:

Instead of simply removing sensory experiences, should we be helping make those experiences safe, enjoyable and gradually more varied?

Not more stimulation. Better experience.

Children deserve to be comfortable

@everyone 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲!

Every goal on your child's plan starts the same way. "Given what condition. What setting, what support, what materials need to be in place so they can do it."

Those conditions matter and they should stay.

But nowhere on the form does anyone ask whether your child could need less of them next year.

The plan is built to work around the discomfort. Nobody is assigned to the discomfort itself.

Children deserve to be comfortable!
