@everyone Your brain uses an enormous amount of energy and produces waste in the process. When the brain cannot clear that waste fast enough, the waste builds up and causes damage. Scientists call this “oxidative stress.” In autism and other neurological conditions, the brain shows signs of that oxidative stress, with damaged proteins, fats and other parts of cells. But never fear, a new animal study found that after 3 weeks of environmental enrichment, oxidative damage was lower in the brain. So, Enrichment doesn't only stimulate plasticity, it also helps the brain protect itself better. Isn't it amazing that something as simple as new sensations and new experiences, moments of exploration, can trigger such complex biological responses inside the brain?
